Theory of Ground Vehicles

Theory of Ground Vehicles Review

Technology/Engineering/Automotive

Engineering for advancing ground vehicle mobility

A standard text and reference for both the educational and professional communities, Theory of Ground Vehicles gives aspiring and practicing engineers a fundamental understanding of the critical factors affecting the performance, handling, and ride essential to the development and design of ground vehicles. In view of the growing concerns over environmental impact, energy efficiency, and safety, this new Fourth Edition has been revised and expanded to address these issues and other developments in the field.

Retaining the contents and format of previous editions, the Fourth Edition introduces new material to reflect recent advances in ground transportation technology, including:
*

Computer-aided methods for design and performance evaluation of off-road vehicles and their practical applications
*

Emissions and fuel economy
*

Hybrid electric drives and fuel cells and their operating principles
*

Selection of vehicle configurations for off-road operations
*

Road vehicle stability control
*

ISO 2631-1:1997 and its applications to evaluating vehicle ride characteristics

As in previous editions, this book focuses on applying engineering principles to the analysis of vehicle behavior. A large number of practical examples and problems are included throughout to help readers bridge the gap between theory and practice. With its broad coverage and pedagogical aids, Theory of Ground Vehicles, Fourth Edition remains the text of choice for students, engineers, and researchers wishing to master and apply basic theory to solve real-world, road and off-road vehicle mobility problems. East German Motor Vehicles in Pictures: Cars, Vans & Trucks 1945 to 1990

East German Motor Vehicles in Pictures: Cars, Vans & Trucks 1945 to 1990 Review

The post-war development of the automotive industry in East Germany (the German Democratic Republic) is quite a different story from that of the West. For many years after the Second World War the industry in the two halves of Germany grew in different directions. Automotive development in West Germany was aided and abetted by cash and investment from America and the Allies, while, for a time, industry of all types in East Germany suffered a certain amount of asset stripping and disinvestment. There was also a stark contrast between the state-driven production methods in the German Democratic Republic and the market-focused development in the West, which today, two decades after the collapse of the GDR, is hard to imagine.  The GDR automotive industry and the vehicles it produced are explored in this book with neither political or economic biase, nor really with emphasis on the technical expertise that went into the cars’ development – instead, the book celebrates the vehicles themselves. It is a pictorial documentation of over forty years of automotive manufacture in the GDR, and the most comprehensive record of these vehicles ever published.  Here, for the first time in English, is a complete pictorial record of all those East German cars, trucks and buses. The authors have tracked down an example of every marque manufactured, and they are all featured here, with portraits taken in the authentic surroundings of the former East Germany, and each vehicle described by a marque expert to ensure accuracy of information. At last, automotive enthusiasts of all persuasions can indulge in this truly fascinating voyage of discovery.
